continued from Dear Art Gallery Owner
Honestly, setting up a new career as an artist, is a huge learning curve for me. Every person I come across, is constantly advising me that the best place for my paintings is in an art gallery. In the grand scheme of things, there are probably hundreds of galleries in England. On the down side, all of these galleries are swamped by all the artists submitting their work to them. They can be like kids in a candy shops, spoilt for choice. I can only imagine that the picking and choosing artwork must be a similar experience to those who put there profiles on Tinder!! Swipe Right or swipe left!! Next!!
So honestly, art gallery owner, I GIVE UP!!! I give up submitting my paintings of my colourful Cityscapes of Manchester and London, that have took me hours and hours to do. I GIVE UP, on being told that, said gallery, are not accepting submissions. I GIVE UP on waiting months for a reply. Eventually when the response does come in, my work is told it has merit by the bucket load, but is not right for said gallery.
DO I GIVE UP ON BEING AN ARTIST?
NO CHANCE, I am in this for the long haul. We live in times where even though there is so much competition, but with that, there are so many opportunities. As I have started saying, there are so many ways to cook an egg. Also it is not about the size of the dog in the fight, but the fight inside the dog! My lovely quotes to the rescue, to keep me on the straight and narrow.
REVEALING THE MASTERPLAN
So the new plan is to get my work into local restaurants. Approaching them and ringing them, has been a nerve wracking experience for me. To be totally honest, I am not used to pitching my ideas to other people and I do sometimes get tongue tied. I realise that if I don’t put myself out there, then I would have to give up, so it is a case of needs must! So I rang up one of the local restaurants near me, and asked if they wanted some nice artworks on their walls, and they said, YES!!!
So next week I am putting my artwork up in my local Istanbul Grill in Prestwich. From there, the plan will continue, so stay tuned for my next instalment!!!
